It is time for me to get a professional fitting. I have heard good things of Nate Loyal at Helen's in Santa Monica. While I am near Pasadena, I'm down to the coast often enough to schedule there as well. Any recommendations (to include Nate)?

Thanks
David

Depends on your motivating factors. Mine was injuries. First I went to the chiropractor and after a few treatments, then to the pro fitter who knows a lot about injuries. I can hardly believe that all pro fitters have the same experience levels.

Enough GOOD things cannot be said about Nate. I had a fitting and insoles made. His little changes made a huge difference.

So I had an appointment with Nate yesterday (Friday). HUGE changes! To give an idea, he raised my seat 4 cm! And moved it forward 3 cm! That was the start.

Riding today was an experience, to say the least. it is like having a whole new bike. While my thighs are sore tonight, it is because of correct positioning. I have a longer ride tomorrow, so I'll be able to give a better report after that one.

I cannot begin to say enough positives about Nate and his fitting. Worth every single penny! I'll be taking my mountain bike in to get fitted soon enough (just have to get riding it again first!)

Never, ever again will I ride without a professional fitting. Period.

Yeah. Nate did right by me.

The thing that made the most difference was shimming the cleats on my shoes.

Hi guys...I hate to revive a thread this old, but I'm doing it anyway :)

I just purchased my first road bike, and I've put...oh maybe 100 miles on it so far. I think it is time to get a professional fit, and the shop that I bought it from like 3 weeks ago (which shall remain unnamed) wants to charge me full price for a "fit" from the shop's owner, who doesn't use any equipment and just eyeballs it.

So I'm turning here for options! I would like a professional fit, since I have a little bit of a strange geometry with short legs/normal torso.

I'm in the San Fernando Valley, but anywhere in Los Angeles County or Orange County is fine. I want the best!

I got fitted at Bannings (http://www.banningsbikes.com/) by Hans last summer. It was $120 for a little more than an hour.

I should add that I'd ridden more than 100 miles on my bike before I went to the fitter. You probably have good reasons for seeking a fitting, and I'm far from being any kind of expert, but there are many threads on the road cycling forum regarding fit. You may want to do some reading before throwing money at the problem.

Thanks Zippy! I'm trying to tough it out as much as I can. I'm doing some of the cheap things first like moving my saddle around, taking the visor off my helmet, stuff like that, first. I think in 2 weeks I am going to try a 26 mile ride and see how that goes. But if all that toughing it out and experimentation doesn't work, I want to have an expert in my back pocket :)

I ride horses (jumping) 4-5 times per week, so at least I already have the "sit on a saddle" type fitness, but it is from the waist up riding is killing me.

Search for him and you'll find nothing but extreme complements.

Works out of Helen's in Santa Monica.
