So I was fiddling with the stem setup on my Kilo TT Pro, swapping stems and changing stack sizes, when all of a sudden I pull off a stem and the headset spontaneously combusts at the same time (I think I may have hit the bike by accident since I wasn't paying much attention). Well, I found this ring on the ground. I assume it came from the headset but I couldn't find a place where it fit tightly.

Now the steerer moves back and forth inside the headtube.

Anybody familiar with this style headset know what to do, before I head to the LBS?
I tried gently pressing it straight into here, but no luck.

Starting from what you have in the pics, stick you steerer back up the headtube and that ring goes taper side down on the steerer tube all the way down to your headset, but UNDER that cap with the logo and patent number on it. It is hard to make it fit snug without pressure because of the tapers so it won't stay put unless the whole things is put together and the top cap/stem bolt is tightened.

Cane Creek's site should have a blow up of it, but almost all of their headsets have that ring, though their nicer ones are metal, probably alum.
