Texas - Bike commuter injured in fire truck crash

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There was a collision between two fire trucks at an intersection in Montrose yesterday. Unfortunately, a cyclist was caught in the wreck and badly injured. :(
Story here, and there are some photos as well:

yah, I saw that on the local news last night (in DFW area).
Hope the cyclist heals quickly (although I hear she's in critical condition).

As a cyclist on my own time, and an emergency first responder at work, this collision has been yet another reminder of how suddenly lives can be affected/changed. I have a certain tightness in my throat and in the pit of my stomach when I think about this event. I know that intersection well; it is a DANGEROUS place.
Prayers up, for all involved.

She was a customer where I work and close friends of a couple of coworkers this really hits home, really sad.
Is she ok? I know she was pretty badly injured but we haven't gotten any news up here since
the initial accident report.

Friend of mine in Dallas was almost killed in October of 2007 during a triathlon race. He was completely crushed and literally died, twice, within the first 12 hours after the accident. Given last rites, someone started looking into caskets. The doctors said the impact he took would be the same as someone who jumped from a plane without a parachute.
Keep the faith. He made a full and complete recovery. He's a bigger jerk now than ever before!
Houston has great hospitals. The best.

Though not legally declared deceased, Leigh essentially passed away this morning. Leigh's family were with her and close friends who were present had a chance to say goodbye yesterday.
Continued prayers, kind thoughts and good vibes aide Leigh's family in these most difficult of days.

The Montrose Bike Gang decided to donate a ghost bike in her honor and we delivered it to her fundraiser monday. We painted a bike with about three coats of white and a light coat of glow in the dark and glitter paint. Hung a laminated piece inside the frame with the dates and provided a red paint pen for her friends and family to personalize. If you get a chance swing by Dunlavy and Westhiemer to check out I was shocked by how many messages were written, she inspired several people in her short time she was with us.
