Road Bike Racing - Looking for a club in Brooklyn

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm looing to start racing (either the end of this season or next) and I'm looking for a club to join. Because of my newlywed, full-time job and grad student status I'm only really able to do group stuff Sat/Sun mornings. I found a club that looks great (really diverse cat riders) on the USA cycling page (Brooklyn Velo Force) but it seems that their e-mail is down. Any suggestions people. At this point I really just looking to see how I measure up and to learn some group riding skills. I mainly ride in Prospect Park, just cause it's closer. Thanks alot.

new york cycle club (nycc) seems decent. i'm looking to do a few rides with them sometime soon. from their website it looks like some of the rides are "A" level and you might be able to get some paceline pratice with those. they go all over the ny area, so it may not be an option if you want to stay close to brooklyn. may be worth a look though. here is the website:

I am a regular at the park. Maybe you see me before. I ride a white/blue Orbea with carbon seat stay. I used to wear a red jersey but now a blue one.

Sounds familiar. I was a bit easier to pick out. I was the one on the monocoque white Moho Road. Starting this weekend I'll be riding my new frame, 2001 black ano TCR Team. If I see you Sat I'll say hi. I won't be there on Sun, I have to drive to the wife's family reunion in Mass.

kissena is what you want. i haven't raced in about 6 years now and i was giving serious consideration to joining this year, but just don't feel "ready" yet. next year!
i'm in the park all the time on my dark blue to silver fade serotta. i'd be down to ride any time.

I'm much in the same place. I don't feel quite ready yet to race, I figure train this year and over the winter and come out swinging next spring. I might show up for some of the August races, but I can't see joining in any earlier that that. If you see me in the park this Sat (I'm going to try and get there around 7.30 so I can get home by 10 to spend the day with the wife, can't ride all day anymore!) give a holler. My Moho is retired, I'll be there on the new TCR. See you 'round.

7:30 am and saturday are not two words i think of using in the same sentence, unless i'm thinking of the time i better be in bed by.
what's your general average speed around the PP circle? i'll average 16-21 mph, depending on my mood.

Well I haven't done the PP circle with a computer yet, my old CP loop was usually around 18-22 depending on how I felt. I'm assuming to stay at least around 20 with the PP loop since it's much flatter (at 5'6" and 168 lbs I'm not much of a climber). I'll let you know on Monday. Have a good weekend.

Me? Tomorrow I am doing a TT test in the park. The last time I did one was 4 weeks ago. Averaging about 23 mph over 7 miles, 2 laps.

are there anymore club besides nycc? I can't believe there's only 1-2 club in the whole state of NY :(.

Holy cow, I usually ride around 50-60 miles and average 18-19mph. What gets me is that hill cause right after you make the first turn, there's a chicane before you get to the top so I think it's over but it's not. And that straight section right after the southern entrance looks flat but I'm always going 2-3 mph slower than I think I should be going.

That hill right before the North entrance always gets me. For some reason I struggle up that hill more than the one in Central Park. It must be that little flat spot, always brings my average way down. Well I'm down to 162 lbs, maybe a few more and it'll seem smaller.

Puts some perspective on those "flat" spots by the south entrance.
Wow thanks a lot. This explains why right before that long downhill even though it looks flat, I always gain a lot more speed, there's a dip right before the "spire" at the 1.25 mile marker.
The little hump at the 2 mile mark I'm guessing is the left turn at the southern entrance. Then it's slowly uphill all the way to the little spire at the check point.
Even more perspective to be had when you look at the Central Park and Prospect Park elevations side by side.
