I want to upgrade a pair of forks.

The original forks have a disk mount and I want to be sure of getting a compatible set of forks.

However, I'm not sure how many types of mount there are or what they are called.

Mine is a simple flat plate with 2 holes in.

Any ideas ?

As far as I know, there's two sizes of standard disc brake mounts, 51mm (International Standard) and 74mm. While you want the one that fits your brakes, but most brake manufacturers offer adapters for both if you find a for you just have to have with the wrong mount.


So long as it has a disc mount, it will probably be one of those.

51mm being IS mount - bolt in from the side to a bracket and 74mm being post mount. Some forks, ie: Rock Shox Boxxer and others do use some proprietary mounting, so might be worthwhile to post what fork you currently have.

DaJMasta is right though, many caliper kits include multiple mounts. Avid BB7's I can guarantee do.

Thanks to the advice here and some good luck I managed to buy some forks that should fit.

The forks don't have any cantilever studs, but they do have bolt holes for the studs to go in.

Are these studs make specific ?

Or can I get them anywhere ?
