Mountain Biking - Cannondale police bikes

Does anyone know how much these are worth, or what actual Cannondale model these are?

they are not stolen it's a police department that is selling them

Both Cannondale and Trek make Police specific bikes. On the Trek line they're essentially a 4 series with some tweaks. Those in you pic are older Cannondales, look to be on the year 2000 range F400's. Newer ones are F series without the headshock. A lot of PD's buy off the shelf bikes and just put the stickers on. Local PD here buys Trek 4500's

Most PD bikes go $700-$1k new. Those max I'd go is $200 or so depending on component sets. They look pretty thrashed

Alright, I gotta ask. What makes these bikes look trashed? Because the tires are half off the wheels? They look like they are in great shape, maybe my 26" monitor doesn't show enough detail though? :roflmao2:

The one in the rear looks to have a bad headshock. It's compressed.

Could have the same issue as the tire.

I usually look at the drivetrain. Rust = bust. Looks good to me.

A typical spring fork mountain bike of that vintage would sell for $150 to $200 in good to excellent condition. I would guess a headshock C'dale is a little more. But those bikes are NOT in good to excellent condition. Maybe $100 for the one with the good headshock. The one with the flat headshock, maybe $50. The offer you make depends on how much of the work you can do yourself. I'll bet the chains and cassettes are toast, maybe the chainwheels too. The bottom brackets may be used up as well. The repair costs add up fast. How much are they asking or is this an open bid?

That's where I am on the condition. You can guarantee that those have been ridden hard and put up wet. Granted they haven't been downhill thrashed I'm sure, but urban riding with an uncaring rider isn't easy on them either. They have to dismount quickly they just throw them down. I have yet to see an older police bike that didn't look and act it's age.

Those bar ends look in god condition and I doubt those were added on later so I can't imagine the riders just tossing them down. My bar ends, which are taped, look in worse shape.

Dude, it's a crappy low-res pic. And I can guarantee that they were added later, as Cannondale doesn't put Profile Design stuff on their bikes. Even in that crappy pic, tires flat, tubes hanging out, you're trying to say they're wonderful. Sheesh.

Seats look comfy. Those are clapped out bikes though.

Looks like it comes with a bunch of other stuff including 4 strobe lights. I hope who ever buys these rigs doesn't try to impersonate an officer.

I would guess the year to be sometime in the late 90's. The 2000 year cannondales had a tapered down tube and those appear to be straight. Also, the cannondale logo is consistent with that age range. There is a website that has all of the cannondale bike catalogs going back to the 80's but I couldn't find it.

I used to instruct a Police Mountain Bike course and believe me those bikes are probably no more than parts bikes at this time. We trained how to dismount and take out a perpetrator at speed leaving the bike to crash by itself
