which is the better steel? I have rephrased my Lemond Poprad or 2008 Jamis Aurora Elite post since I'm getting no responses.

True Temper OX Platinum is comparable to Reynolds 853. Reynolds 631 is actually the same tubes as 853 only it's not heat treated for strength like 853 is, only air hardened (which sounds to me like they weld it and let it cool!). So the welds are quite strong since they get hot, but the overall tubing is less stiff than 853. I had a Jamis Quest and have a Jamis Coda, both 631, and they are very comfortable bikes. I'm a lightweight 145, so I can't comment on the stiffness as I never felt any lack of rigidity.

They are quite similar, however, the bikes are not. The Poprad can be a hard core race machine. Johnny Sundt (rides for Kelly Benefits) was crushing the local cross races on a Poprad. The Aurora, iirc, is more of a touring bike. Thus you will probably feel that it is somewhat heavier, and maybe a little slower in feel. This is a boon when descending or riding long days. So "which bike is best suited to your purposes" is a more important question, because these bikes are quite different atmo.

I'm with you. I'm 144lbs so almost anything feels stiff. I have 2 Waterfords one 531 and the other 753, very similar to 853. There is a difference that even a light weight can feel though. Part of the reason 853 is so light is because the tubes are thinner. The tubing is stronger so they can be thinner, hence lighter. True Tember is very similar to 853 and used almost exclusively by Waterford in their Gunnar line.

I would consider the framesets functionally equivalent and focus instead on what wheels and components they come with.
