I just recently purchased a bike (Goose XR 200), I'm hooked and now it's time to buy a quality bike!

I want to purchase an American made frame.

Are these bikes (frames) still made here in the U.S.A. ?

Are there any I don't have listed ?

1. Calfee
2. Cannondale
3. Serotta
4. Merlin
5. Trek

Where is a Kona built ?

Thanks for any knowledge given, great forum!

I think most of their high end stuff is still made here or in italy.

S-Works only in USA (at least that was the case last year, I'm not at a Specialized shop any more).
Not all Litespeeds are made in the USA-any alu bike they make is not.
Waterford makes a fine steel bike. There are, as has been said, many manufacturers not listed here.

Those bikes and that list is misleading.
Yes, Cannondale bikes are made in the USA but some of their bikes are not.
All titanium Litespeeds are made in Tennessee. The aluminum ones are not.
All Specialized are made in Taiwan except the S-Works, I believe.

i like Dave Kirk's stuff... he rarely gets mentioned here... i really like his philosophy, and obviously his bikes, too

So, how do you tell an american C-Dale from a non-american one ?

According to their website, all of Cannondale's frames are made in the USA. I spent some time waiting at a Cannondale shop with several different models, and all had thier trademark "Handmade in USA" logo. C'dale's accessories are made in various places, usually USA, Taiwan, or Mexico.

Not only does the Schwinn famliy make the Waterford line, they have their less expensive Gunnar line, named after the family dog, that I believe is US made as well.

I'm waiting for a line of US made components that are compitition for Shimano, Campy, Sram, Sunrace, and Sachs.

If well designed and made American bikes are the topic, we've got to mention Waterford and Rivendell.

Diesel,
The Waterford bicycle brand, has never been a "member of the Schwinn family". It is true that when Schwinn decided to separate the manufacture of the Paramount from the rest of the stuff, they built a new facility in Waterford. When Schwinn decided to end it's own manufacture of bicycles the Waterford facility was sold. The new ownership was and is Waterford Precision Bicycle.

" When Schwinn was sold in 1993, a group of Schwinn employees bought the factory and started Waterford Precision Cycles (that's, of course, another story). Waterford continued to build Paramounts pretty much as before the sale though the end of the 1993 model year. In 1994, Schwinn contracted with Waterford to build Paramounts - both for stock and on a custom basis. ", This quote is from the history of the Paramount bicycle which can be read in full at: http://www.waterfordbikes.com/2004/data/culture/paramount/index.php

HEY, WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! Don't forget "Worksman" bicycles.
They are made in (of all places) New York City!!

They make bikes mainly for industy (VERY stong bikes) but
they also have a recreational line that in resonably priced
and tough as nails.

henryjames.com has a list of custom steel builders who use their lugs. It has lots of smaller, local frame-builders and workshops.
My fav US builder has to be Columbine or Bohemian. These are both rideable works of art.

Diesel,
The Waterford bicycle brand, has never been a "member of the Schwinn family". [/url]
I imagine that Diesel was referring to the fact that Richard Schwinn is a significant part of the ownership group at Waterford.
Also, as has been said, all CDale frames are made in the USA.

I believe the production rivendell frames are made in Japan (Toyo frame shop), not the USA. However their custom frames are fabricated in the USA.

it doesnt matter were the acutal bike is welded to gether ...what matters is the fact that the design was thought up and produced in the US...jsut becuase the bikes were built in italy or taiwan doesnt mean the bikes waere influenced in any way by these countries..its still american

It's all good to look for american made frames but half of the major components on the bike will be foreign made.

Eddy Merckx Majestic titanium made by Litespeed in the U S of A. At least that's what the label on the base of the seat tube says. I think its great to be able to buy American. It's somewhat worrisome to me the # of products coming out of the the far east & the new world industrial power "China". If you think gas prices are high now just wait a few years when the 3 billion Chinese start buying cars.
Sorry about that, I'll get off the soap box now.
