I need to dump one of my wheelsets that I have lying around to fund another purchase. I have a Tricross that I just bought that has the Roval Pave wheels that are nearly new and a set of AC420's with about 3500 miles on them that are perfectly true that were my main road wheels for the last little bit.

Obviously the 420's are much lighter, but being new to the cyclocross scene I'm not sure if they'd be a good option for my main training/racing wheelset or cyclocross at all. FWIW I'm about 180lbs right now and looking to drop another 10lbs right away this season before the fall. I'm worried if they can take the abuse.

What would you do? Can the 420's be a reliable cross wheelset or should I ditch those and stay with the Pave's that came on the bike fore now?

Alright guys, will these hubs break on me? Take your best guess if nothing else.

I've read conflicting reports on the weight limits for American Classic wheels. I use to run a set of AC320's and I weighed about 185lbs. I had to true the rear wheel about every 300 miles. The front wheel felt flexy on curvy descents. This is just road riding. I would never ride these wheels for cyclocross. At 180lbs, I think you'd wreck these wheels in no time flat. Use them for road riding, use the Rovals for cross.

Was asking the same question - "can I use my dusty AM420's for Cross". The AM website now says this for AM420's....

"420’s are the best do-it-all wheels on the market and are strong enough for racing or training. ......................................The rims and blades are tough enough for ‘cross and the deep profile sheds mud. The 420’s are the perfect choice for serious riders and racers."

I am going to try them...
