Living Car Free - Car Free

I don't see why anyone would want to give up their car.
Its just too easy to insert a key in the ignition and punch the gas pedal.....you guys have to get all sweaty and yucky just to go down the road a bit. I get to have air conditioning or heat and get to sit on my fat butt while going 1/4 mile to the convenience store.
I don't understand you guys.

Oh, I thought you said "Free Cars". I agree that cars should rise up and free themselves of their tire chains. A car should be free to go where it wants, and do what it wants. Isn't that what all the horse-drawn carriages fought for in the Revolution? End the tyranny of the lane stripes! Every car is an SUV at heart!

Lol I forgot all about April Fools because it was yesterday for me! I am in Korea, so we are a day ahead of you!

But I do feel sorry for people driving those oversized cars 2 miles to the gym.

This reminds me of a realization I had when deciding to sell my car. I decided to sit in it and think about it for a while. The realization was that everything I liked about the car could be had within my apartment. I liked the comfortable reclining chair, the stereo with the CD player, and the climate control.

Since I could buy all of those things and have them for many more hours per day inside my apartment I decided to sell the car.

My average monthly mileage was about one hundred thirty-two. If I really needed to I could take a cab. Cab fare once a week for a year would be just a little more than my annual car insurance. It turns out that I don't really need to use a cab very often.

I raced my boyfriend to the local shopping plaza last summer. He had the car, I had the bike. (I also had two shortcuts you can't use in a car). I beat him there by a few seconds but lost in the locking-up phase. (U-locks need to come with keyless remotes :p)

Reminds me of an event I went to at a friend's house two weeks ago. I rode, and my wife took the subway. We took exactly the same time both ways. This surprised me since we live right on the line, and our destination was about a 5-10 minute walk from the subway station on the other end. Total distance was about 8km each way, and I was sure the train would be faster.

Goes to show you how fast cycling really can be.

As an experiment, I actually drove to work one day, using two different routes (one going in, the other coming back) and found riding the car to be faster by only between 10-15 minutes (depending on the traffic signal cycles). Not too bad, really.

Today would have been much faster on a bike. I drove. I left the house at 7:40, got to work at 8:53. Its only 8 freaking miles. :eek:

Did that with my ex on a regular basis, except we were headed for work. I always got there before she did and was sitting in my shop by the window with a cup of fresh coffee in hand, while she was still walking in from the employee parking lot...waved at her as she walked past the window:D:lol: IIRC the distance was around 2-3 miles. I was able to utilize a couple of short cuts and my parking was in my shop, not several hundred yards from the building.
