I'm not very convinced about the accuracy of this. I went into that final straight in about 10th and got shut down by the wind (re: poorly designed move (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=525152)) but i know i didn't get passed by that many people---i did sit up before the finish though, so i suppose anything is possible.

They have me 50-something for one of the races and I know I wasn't. I was right behind Flanders and he is like 10 guys in front of me.

The have me in the top 20 for the second race and I don;t think I was there either.

Oh well....welcome t racing. If you aint in the top 10 then it just doesn't matter.

Haha.. I got 26th place in the 4/5 30+ even so I didn't finish the race. :D

But it really doesn't matter.. a few more days and I will have my 10 race starts in the books and time to upgrade to cat 4 so I can get my ass handed to me in the 3/4 races.

CC, you don't belong in the 5's. Get your races in so you can upgrade.

It is sad that a Illionois Cup race would have such poor scoring. I was 13th in my race and that was close to right. It pays to have a yellow...bike, helmet, tires, jersey and gloves. Sort-of sticks out on the camera. Ok....yellow in the jersey but it worked!

It's billed as a training crit and they had a super selection of cats for that purpose and did it very well. However there's no way it should have been part of the Illinois cup. They only ran half of the Illinois cup categories and didn't have enough officials to do adequate scoring.

That said, as a training crit as long as they get the top 10 or so - who cares? I know I had two pack finishes, one towards the back and one mid-pack. Nowhere near the points so it doesn't matter.

I don't have too much experience here but i guess i just don't understand why they would suddenly have a hard time? What went wrong here?

Video of start of last lap in Masters 4/5. Counted fewer than 40 riders in pack but many of us were placed in the 50s.

4/5 finish. Counted 53 finishers which includes several lapped riders. btw, psi, you were about 10 place behind me.

I completly disagree. It is a Illinois Cup Race. It is not a training race like Kenosha or the Kevin's Crit/Half Acre Race. They need to have their Shtuff together. The only training part of this race is the officials! I don't want totake away from the race since it is a great race, but they have to take this more seriously.

The officials there were good officials. I have always respected the work they have done. Yes, I hate paying a fee, working my ass off, and never really know if I just moved up a few spots over the last race or not, but in the end.....
.....
....Nobody cares about my race or how I did except for me.

The Illinois Cup was an afterthought last year and looks to be going the same way this year.

Only one of the races advertised so far is running all the cats. The results for the first race are compromised and should be abandoned, never mind that offering prizes 3 deep is pretty poor when 80-90 people register for a race. - hardly fitting for part of a prestige series (btw, I'll never win anything but do believe that 20-30% of registration fees should go towards prize funds for the open categories).

Just how are they going to separate out all the cat 5s from the cat 4s for points purposes. What about the killer B's? and the 4s in the 3/4 race? This should all be clarified beforehand, not made up afterwards.

The rules are not available yet, so i guess they can make up anything they want.

There is no excuse for randomly including DNFs and lapped riders in the results. This is one of the first things that officials look out for and they failed.

Agreed. Unless they run uniform races or designate which races are for Illinois Cup points and which are not, few (in the lower cats, anyway) will care enough to make a serious effort at the series. Oddly enough the Illinois Cup web page still says that the 2009 rule book will be posted shortly.

I'm not meaning to minimize that work that's gone into moving the series forward, either. I think they're moving in the right direction, and I know a lot of people are working hard at it. It's just not "there"... yet.

My result seems about right, but based on what I'm hearing, this seems to be one of the most shoddily-scored races I've ever heard of.

Oh well, the races I care about start this weekend.

It was mentioned before the race their camera was not functioning properly.

The explanation of the final scoring was made by Jason Knauff here (http://www.chicagobikeracing.com/index.php/site/post/spring-super-crit-wrap-up/#comments).

Basically top 10 should be correct, and everyone in between the top ten and last 10 were scored by sequential race number (01-70).

No bragging rights other than the top 10 guys, but at least someone filmed the end so you can see how you really did. :p
