Road Cycling - How can anyone beat this deal on a new bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Obviously the tubes are not generic (Easton). It comes with Mavic Cosmos wheels which are solid. It comes with a full ultegra package. If you can stand compact geometry this has to be one of the best deals going. Who cares what the name on the side of the downtube says.

Mark - it continues to be eerie. Bicycle magazine rated the Iron Horse a top buy a couple months ago - about the same time a riding buddy got his. I was very impressed with his and have been singing their praises ever since.
BTW - Getaway is a good company - I've bought several items from them. One of the shipments was addressed incorrectly and they went out of their way to track it down and re-route it. The communication was great.

as long as you can fit a 48-52cm frameset. judging by your avatar, 48cm frame might be too big for you.

I bought my last bike from them. They were great to deal with as you say. They let me swap the bars and the stem AFTER I was fitted locally.

While I prefer circus bikes, I'll occasionally ride a 54 as well (50 in compact).
Too bad I'm not in the market.

Easy.
Rather than paying $1,299.00 for the Iron Horse, simply get a $600 FUJI
instead.
Take the $700 difference, and use the cash to upgrade components
to your liking.

Please show me a $600 Fuji frame with carbon stays that can be upgraded to the level of componentry, wheels, forks, etc using only an extra $700. BTW, the Fuji Roubaix is similarly priced ($1260) but not quite full Ultegra like the IH bike.

which of the iron horse is the one that is rated highly by bike mags?
Bicycling Magazine (June '04) gave it a an honorable mention in their "Gear of the Year" article, pg. 52. The Iron Horse Glory. MSRP of $1269 but less than a grand at shops. The one I test rode was the Victory.

If you're budget is limited, that would be a good way to go if it fits. Wouldn't be too bad for a first race bike either as you could total it out and not feel to bad.
