Road Cycling - They want me to dispose of it...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My bike was stolen. The thief traded up and left a junk bike. The bike is still there (after a week and not locked up) and now Security wants ME to "dispose of it". The serial numbers are filed off. How do I find the owner? Police won't pick it up because the company is on private property.
Is it better to bring it home till the owner is found?
It's not your bike...
Next thing you know, they'll want you to haul away the company trash too... oh wait that IS what they want you to do.

Tell them to go f*ck themselves. It's not your responsibility. You can also threaten to take them to small claims court for damages caused by insufficient avaialable security on the premesis.

Call Goodwill or Salvation Army to come pick it up.

I agree. Tell those rent-a-cops that if they were doing their job you'd still have YOUR bike, and the junker stays unless they want to move it themselves. :D Then again, I guess it wouldn't be that hard for you to move it yourself. Could you ride it to a more visible location where it could be "dontated" to one less furtunate? That's what I'd do cause I'm nice that way.

It would be my luck that I would get arrested for transporting this stolen bike with scratched off serial #'s or something. :)

Make security deal with it. They have to do something vaguely useful at least once in a while, don't they?

Agreed, it's not your responsibility to dispose of it. Put a sign on it that says "Bike $75". That will insure that it gets stolen.

If you move it, you'll technically be in possession of stolen property.
That's crazy bullsh!t. I'd definitely tell them where they can stick that bike.
I wonder why they pay so much attention to that bike anyway- if they'd paid more attention to begin with, maybe your bike wouldn't have been stolen to begin with. I'd point that out to the supervisor in charge of the idiots.

That's ridiculous. What are they going to do if you say no? Not say "hello" in the morning?
Next time they ask, just laugh.

I alsoo agree , and if they ask you to remove the bike again, tell them "Its not MY bike, MY bike was stolen and you wasnt doing your job"...
Someone else stated you go to the suprvisor of security, again I agree and inform them you want a copy of the report and inform them you will be sending a copy to your lawyer... See if that gets some attention....
Sorry you lost your bike, hope it gets back safe and sound...

Great reply, exactly what I was thinking.

They don't seem to understand the term "ownership". I told them to stick it and they replied by sending the Employee policy that says: The owner shall be responsible for the cost of removal. I replied politely (this was hard)...
???How can the owner of the red stolen bike remove it, if he doesn't know it's there???
