I just bought some used bar end shifters, 10 speed DA. I've never installed these before, just used them on bikes already built. I've decided I don't need them, and plan to sell them. Before I do, I want to be sure they work properly. On the shifter that is indexed, when it is not connected to a cable under tension, should there be play in the shifter at each stop? (I already have that one set to indexed, not friction). Also, they came attached to some aero extensions, what is the best way to remove them, they seem to be in there quite firmly. Thanks for any help.

Between indents, the shifter moves some, whether attached to a cable or not. Even though it's an indexed shifter, it still has to move to pull or release the cable. As for removing the shifter body, turn the wrench clockwise instead of counter-clockwise-

But should that amount be very different? With the shifters on the tri bike, if there is any I can't really detect it. With these I just picked up there is a good bit. If I hold up the shifter and wiggle it back and forth I can see the lever move back and forth, probably travels about 3-4mm (I don't have something to give you an amount of degrees of travel.) Short of installing it, which I can't do since I don't have another bike to put them on, is there a way to tell if they work?
