I disagree, but hey, to each his own. That's what makes this world great. Individuality.
Good Luck on the hunt!

You know, if you ask 10 different cyclist what is the best bike, you'll get 20 different answers. The best bike for you may be a nightmare for me.
Things to consider:
Intended type riding? cross country, dirt jumping, urban (hardcore city), or neighborhood cruising?
Rider style? Aggressive, timid, smooth, rough?
Rider weight? Weight wienie or Rhyno Clydesdale?
Local Trails? Mostly double track, single track, long climbs, very technical...etc?
Most importantly, RIDER body dimensions? Inseam, torsoe length, arm length. (height usually NOT significant!)
And lastly, and although usually the determining factor, it should be the last consideration is Rider preference. We all have favorite brands, and will "love" a bike without ever riding that specific model. We make ourselves believe that it's the right bike for us.
The thing to do is to visit as many different shops in your area with no preconceived notions (hard to do) and test ride as many different brands/models as possible. Each manufacturer uses different geometries for their different models.
I tend to like Specialized products. Why? Probably because their geometries are compatible with my body and style. I've ridden almost every big brand bike, and a lot of friends customs (when you work in a shop you test ride EVERY repair - especially the nice ones).
You really just need to throw a leg over one and go for a ride. Like buying a car. Do you just order one without going for a test ride? Some people do. I do NOT!

Well, you get a better fork with just the COMP, but the Float 80 RL is a GREAT fork. You also get better shifters (XT), but I'm not interested in the intergrated new shifters. To me that's actually a negative. I'd rather have LX triggers than the integrated XT's. If you get integrated shifter/levers, and want to upgrade in a year, you need new brakes, levers AND shifters! If you stick with the COMP DISC with the LX triggers, you already have seperate shifter pods, and you're not tied to getting SHIMANO brakes.
The MSRP difference is $50 for that little amount, I would say YES to the COMP DISC, unless you are stickly going to use this bike for XC racing, then the Non-disc would be better suited.
If however, this is going to be more of an all-around bike, then the disc option is worth it.

Oh yeah, keep test riding different bikes and then test ride the Specialized again. That's what you learn to realize is what just "Feels" better.
Good Luck, and Good Choice!
