Bicycle Mechanics - Wheel price check

I'm looking for a set of OP rims and Ultegra hubs. Anyone know approx what they're going for?

Do you want rims and hubs, or do you want spokes with that? :)
Seriously, the price depends on whether you are OK with hand finished, machine built wheels or if you want something that gets lovingly tweaked and tension-balanced and built with spoke head washers by a good local builder who will stand behind their work?
Prices will vary, and there are FAR better rims out there these days-the OP design is almost 20 years old!

I have an Ultegra hub to an OP for the front but what would you suggest instead of an OP?

Well, I'm older than 20, actually 2 1/2 times but who's counting.:D Seriously, I'm looking for a set of general purpose wheels for trekking and light, very light, off road use. I'm trying to stay under $300

Colorado Cyclist list just that combination for a total of $342/pair and will substitute Mavic CXP-33 rims for about $5/wheel.
I'm particularly fond of the CXP-33 rim. They are a bit more rigid and aero than Open Pros at only a very slight weight penalty.
I've owned two sets of CC's wheels and have found them properly tensioned and very true right out of the box and they stayed that way for many, many miles. They are machine built but hand finished so it's a good compromise.

Pretty much anything with a semi-aero section will be stronger. There ARE exceptions.

You can find a better price than Colorado Cyclist, but you won't find better quality - unless you build them yourself and have lots of experience.

I built the original wheels on DA hubs in in the early 80's....lot of miles on em.
My original thought was to buy new rims and spokes and re lace them on the old hubs....the cost for the rims , spokes, nipples, etc. was more than what I paid for the built wheels. AND, I got modern hubs and some nice wheels for less than the cost of what my hand built upgraded units would have cost.....I went over the new ones , relieved stresses and checked tensions, and true etc. And bought a modern casette and shifters and moved into the new century.

I just bought the exact combo for $229 for the pair from Performance. 20% back for team members this weekend.
