Road Cycling - Selle Italia SLR vs. Selle Italia SLR Gelflow - Anyone tried these two??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Currently riding the SLR and thinking of trying the SLR Gelflow with the cutout. Hoping somebody may have already made the switch and could describe the differences in feel?

You're trying to get away from the SLR because it's... too hard? Just wondering because I've been looking at an SLR. What's your experience been?

It's not really too hard. I've done centuries on it with not much discomfort. It actually seems to fit me well but I occassionaly get pressure in the "middle area" and was wondering if the cutout, with the extra padding, would help this problem. If I don't stand or adjust positioning the pressure will eventually turn into entire "package" numbness. Just trying to find the Nirvana of saddles! :)
I think www.cyclingnews.com did a review on the Gelflow (I'm too lazy to look for it right now, otherwise I 'd provide a link). IIRC, they hated it. Much preferred the original SLR. YMMV

I use the original SLR and I like it. I have also used the SLR w/gelflow and cutout(only test rode it). It didn't seem to help very much, but I did only ride it for a few miles.
originalbart: The SLR looks like it would be uncomfortable doesn't it? Thats what I thought when my dad asked if I wanted to use his. But the CF shell is pretty flexible and it kind of molds to the shape of your sit bones.
my TCR came with the flight trans am ti with the cutout (yours didn't?)
I know it's not the one you're talking about but I really like the cut design,
find it to be a comfy saddle.
would love to know how much better the SLR w/gelflow would be....nirvana does sound good :D

I have a SLR and it hurts your but after a while in the saddle. It looks nice but its is just plain hard. I need to get somthing else. Anybody want to buy a slightly used SLR.
I've tried SLR and SLR gel.
OK for smaller guys, but these were not working for me at all. Same with fizik airione, the worst saddle I've ever tried.
Forget magazine reviews and all that BS, buying a saddle is like buying a pair of shoes, what fits for one does not fit for another. Most italian saddles are designed for 150lb guys or smaller. One size does not fit all. Only Specialized makes multi-size saddles that need to be measured (using a buttometer) and they are by far the most comfortable for a guy like me (34 waist, 190lb, 6'3").

Ive got a Brooks. while its fairly comfy Im not digging the looks on my bike. Its a B17 on a S-Works M4 road. Kinda like a old wood steeringwheel on a flashy modern car. Thiking of selling it to get something a lttle more modern.

I have SLR GelFlow (cutout) and Flite Genuine Gel (no cutout) - like both, but comfort nod goes to Flite. The GelFlow is a bit firm and took some getting used to.
I have the SLR Gel Flow. I need the cutout. Without it my reproductive equipment numbs in about 10 miles. I find the saddle to be pretty comfortable. The only saddles I've tried that are more comfortable for me are the larger and heavier Selle Italia Gel Flows. Certainly, it is the most comfortable sub 200 gram saddle I've ever ridden. That doesn't mean you will like it, however.

I have a SLR Gel Flow and couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve been on this saddle for 2500 km this year and on rides up to 4 hours at a time and have not experienced any numbing. The cutout really works for me compared to my old saddle.
I’ve tried the SLR only on test rides at my LBS. It is a hard saddle but I think I can get use to it given time. It really seemed to mould really to my sit bones. However, I’m only assuming because my longest ride on the SLR was 15 minutes. The “boys” were still happy after 15 minutes but who knows what they would say after a couple hours.
