Hi,

My girlfriend right now goes to GW law and I am moving with her to Arlington in May. Right now I live in Niagara Falls. I love the area and am really excited about the riding there. The only problem is finding a job. I have had some interviews and I am coming back for 2nd and 3rd interviews but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or works somewhere that is hiring. I have a BA in Sport and Recreation Management with a minor in Crim Justice. I am USA cycling Coaching certified and I would like to get involved in either cycling, fitness, or some sort of recreation field such as parks and rec. Any ideas would be awesome and I thank you for that in advance.

Hi rdewire! I'm also new here, but I've lived in Arlington, VA for more than a year now.

I would talk to the people who own/work with Revolution Cycles. I bought a bike there last year at the shop near the Clarendon metro stop, and those guys know cycling. At least the last time I was in there they had a sheet on the door (old school style :) that said they were hiring an assistant manager/bike technicians, etc. They are really nice there, so I'd check it out.

Even if you don't want to do retail long-term, that might be a good option to get some $$ coming in while you look for something more permanent. Also, if you have that cycling certification, you could even just talk to some of the local bike shop owners to see if they know anyone that is hi

They might even hire people to work as bike coaches. My point is, the bike shop owners in the DC metro area are really well-networked...so even if you aren't looking for a job at a bike shop, it couldn't hurt to introduce yourself and see if they know anyone in the industry that is hiring.

Also, since you have a background in Crim. Justice have you considered looking for a job w/ a government agency of some type? That might be worth checking out, since you'll be in the heart of it here.

Also, welcome! Arlington is a great place to live, with excellent biking routes and trails. I think you'll like it here!

I have interviewed at revolution and i have taken an Arlington County Sheriff Exam already. I also had an interview at Health and Fitness, but I have yet to set anything up for sure. I am just looking for some other ideas that I may not have explored yet. Thank you for all your input.

Wait...do you happen to mean "Verve" Health and Fitness, as in the health club/gym?

If so, one of those locations is in the building that I work at. Definitely let me know!
