Hey, my legs are finally coming back after the winter doldrums. I feel power and the ability to really push hard, and I can accelerate on hills! It is a great feeling.
Despite regularly and vigorously working on the trainer this winter, it just isn't the same! It takes miles on the road and really pushing myself to really get in shape.
Anyway, any young whippersnappers who try to pass someone like me about 40-50 years older than they are - beware - we may give you a challenge! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Good for you Denver! I have been feeling pretty good for myself this week. Maybe a few more weeks of bi-daily 20's and I will consider stepping up to 20 every day that it is dry. Really, I just want to get at least 20 more pounds off. I lost 2 pounds last week, a total of 6 since I started my season up, 3 weeks or so back.
You remind me a lot of my father, he is in tremendous physical shape. He is 68, and the Doc said that he had the body of a 40 yr old man when he went for a physical last year. No clogged arteries, no high cholesterol, no high blood pressure. He is 5-11 with a 36 inch waist, and pretty big arms. He has framed houses all his life, and has worked with lumber and plywood. He still works every day. Best -

Yuh got me beat again, but what a good inspiration. You must be more physically fit than most of your friends. Sad to say, even with the shape that I am in, I only know of two people who are in noticeably better shape, and I know that they both exercise very regularly.

I use clipless Shimano pedals with Shimano SPD sandals.
They are great, and I would suggest you think about moving away from those platform toe straps to clipless.

After being slack in the end months of summer, I am starting to really hit it going into winter. (we race in winter)
Saturday 30km~
Sunday 103km
Monday 10km + 1hour interval session at gym at a RPM class
Tuesday 8km (rest)
Wednesday 4km+57km
Thursday 8km+35km
Friday 8km
Not a bad week: 259km plus the gym RPM session. Am going to slowly ramp it up, and give some U19 racing a proper crack later on this year.

Denver: awesome! I can hold you up as a model. I am just starting back after a long time off. Body is starting to remember, but it is slow. Legs hate me most of the time. I feel the burn :p But Saturday, my longest ride to date I felt great, speed was up and HR was down.
Terminator: You are doing well, but unlike you I know quite a few that are fit and ride, workout etc. Comes from working around a large # of people.
I have gotten a bit overzellous with my riding, but I have now backed off to give the body a chance to recover.

jarhead42: Second Denver on the pedals. I made a big improvement when I went clipless in 99. I have had look fixed, time, SPD, SPD-R, and now SPD-SL
I like the SPD-SL the best of if you have knee problems look at the speedplays

Hey I'm there! 45 and feelin goooood! But honestly, I havn't been riding as much as I've wanted to the last two weeks, but I have been hitting the weights and wind sprints and plyometrics a lot. I've also been making a fun exercise out of running a rucksack down to the ravine bottoms and filling it with flat stones and hauling them as fast as I can back up. Really steep hills with loose dirt, rocks and leaves (and an occasional snake). Talk about a pump!
I use the stones for my landscaping. There's also a lot of game trails going up and down the hills I like to run on. They'd make great mountain bike trails if it weren't for all the fallen trees laying across them. I kind of like them though because they make me jump over and crawl underneath to get through.
At work we have this blood pressure machine and I've been watching my blood pressure steadily go down. As of two minutes ago, it checked 126/78. A lot better than 145/90 two months ago. Of course, giving up my morning coffee had a lot to do with that.

Way to go! I did a check with my cuff and very minimal effect to me with coffee. I only drink 16 oz a day, 2 cups, so that is not bad. Seen a rise of 4 sys/2 dist. I am going to try this after I get off my BP pills and see what that does.
Denver: I think I could hang with you for the warmup.............. After that I would be toast!!
