Hi, my '73 Super Course has a tubular brake bridge across the seat stays. Many bikes have this, but better frames have some sort of fitting in the middle that the brake can bolt to securely, without threatening to flatten the bridge tube. The old Super Course solved this problem with a steel tube inserted into the bridge tube to house the brake pivot/mounting pin, and take the stress of a tightened nut in compression.

So far so good. My pivot bolt is loose, and tends to rattle in the bridge tube. I haven't finished the build on this frame yet, but if I test-fit a brake (a 75 mm reach DiaComp center pull with all the mounting blocks) the brake wiggles even after the bolt is tightened. The tube is also not to hard to pull out.

I think I need to secure that insert tube. Anybody worked this problem in the past?

Am I on the right track?
