This is to everyone who keep baggin on Specialized Roll-X tires.
It seems, because one German magazine published a few years back that the Roll-X had one of the highest rolling resistance ratings among MTB tires that everyone now has jumped on the Roll-X bashing bandwagon, whether they have actually used the tire or not. Everyone has a friend who knows someone who had Roll-X's and their tires used to wash out constantly on dry pavement, and cause the bike to randomly go out of control. :rolleyes:
Anyways heres my response to that. I have used Roll-X's which came on my '04 Stumpjumper Comp for the last three months. I went into it expecting them to suck given the constant negative banter surrounding them. I took them out through rock gardens, wet limestone (any tire is usesless in this case), creeks, hub deep mud, sand, gravel, hardpack, loose on hard, through the air, over land... I have truly used these tires in nearly every situation imaginable within XC use and found... whats this?... NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM! :eek:
I rode a 7mi wet clay/mud/sand course today, and you know what? The tires didn't slip ONCE on the slick clay hill climbs that I could barely walk up. Wet tree roots, rocks, loose descents, never a problem once. Deep sand, excellent control and traction. Fishtailing through thick mud, they cleared faster than any tire I have used previously, and never once let go. :o
Do I think these are the best tires ever made? Probably not the best, but for an all around tire I really can't think of anything I would rather have now.
Hate to say it but I think the problem with Roll-Xs exsists between the bars and saddle, or is the result of one persons bad experience coloring everyone's view. So my challenge is, if you haven't actually used Roll-X's then don't offer your opinion on them, because you really can't say anything about them with any accuracy.
