Mountain Biking - Whistler Bike Park This Year!!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A buddy and I are going to have seasons passes this year for the bike park. Who else is going? Would be cool to ride with some people from the forums. Should have a bikeforums.net Whistler ride day if money isnt tight for some people.
What does everyone think? Anyone have a place to stay, or wanna camp?

And if money is a bit tight? Would you be willing to pay? I'll get my grandma to make some cookies to give you.

No need to be sorry, I was just kidding. Sounds like a great idea for those who are west of the Mississippi.

Nice man, I would come up and cheer you on. A buddy of mine wants to ride in phat wednesday. He tears it up pretty good, more than you would think. Would be cool to see how he does against a pro.
Just send me a message, we can set something up for sure.

Didn't get the chance to get up there last year. We're going to try to get up there before our Mexico trip in July if our passports come in by then. What's it like at the top? I've only been at the top of the lower chair. A-line and crank it up trails.
Only one I've been on from the top is Original Sin - -after a morning of rain that shut down all of the upper trails but that one. At the time it felt like one slippery-chute plummet to a hairpin bog after another. I'm sure it must be a blast when it's drier.
That's one reason I have to get back this year: I've never been there when Garbanzo was fully open.
When you're up, mykster, be sure to get over to Schleyer, Rock City, etc. Very different character from A-Line, Crabapple Hits or Dirt Merchant and very addictive.

I've seen videos on youtube on the Schleyer trail. Looks pretty intense. Can't wait. I think they open up May 12th.
But I live in Orange County. :(
Dang. :(
BTW, do you have to be really good to ride at whistler or is there a variety for beginners? :)

They got trails for all skill levels. Crank It Up, is a blue run which would be right up your alley. Well worth the trip. 100x better than the last lift assist resort we had. Hit up you tube and do a search for Whistler Bike Park. Plenty to watch. Plus www.whistlerbike.com for a detailed trail map.

Really? Well I mean if I could get some people to go with me I wouldn't mind doing it. :D
What was the other resort, just out of curiosity? Are there plenty of lift assisted resorts or is Whistler just the king of the few? What do you mean by "we", do the people of the forums gather up for a ride?!?!? O_O SUHWEEET :D
Sorry bout the questions, if you can't tell already I'm new.
Also, thanks for the link man. I've been checking out there website since I read this thread, and I've been watching youtube videos of Whistler since I started riding (great motivational stuff right there :P).
Whistler is top of the heap; but Sun Peaks is worthy (I have been there) and I hear from people in the know that Silver Star is pretty good too. But if you are going to make the long trek, it's gotta be Whistler.
Visit Fluidride's Virtual Descent page for helmet cam vids of various Whistler trails:

. . . and, as mykster says, there are plenty of trails that aren't as gnar for newbs to warm up on. Crank It Up (as mentioned), B-Line and more. Even a long weekend there will progress your level of riding more than in a whole season anywhere else.

I've been considering going up there for a week this summer. I had a similar question. Basically, my wheels don't typically leave the ground where I ride. So it sounds like I should be okay with some of the less hardcore trails?
I think what I'll do is just go and rent some equipment and try to get a feel for it.
Is there any one time where the park is not as busy?
Enjoy your summer sessions guys.
P.S. who wants to hide a minor in their suitcase?

Whistler has everything for everyone. They have around 50 trails I think, ranging from nice and easy to OMFG I AM GOING TO DIE!!!!!
There are lots of different lift access resorts to ride, but Whistler is the best.
About the time its not busy, I would guess during the begging of the season. The park is only open till 5, so a lot people that only come a couple times ride in the middle of summer.
No matter what kind of rider you are, you will have fun. If you are not a jumper, all the trails are tables. If they are not, then they are marked and you are able to go around them.
Ben, Mondays are usually not busy. We started our week once on a Monday; it's amazing to see the flood of cars heading back to Vancouver with dual-crown-forked bikes on top.
YES, rent something squishy while you are there. Once you get the feel of things, the bike will beg to leave the ground. As WGG says, most all the jumps on the popular trails are tables so there are no gaps to have to clear. If you don't get all the way to the tranny, no harm - - you just land on top of the flat. And there are rhythm sections of jumps;so, say you case the first one, pump down the transition and try to hit the next lip harder. By the time you get to the third, maybe you've got enough speed and pump then to clear that one. It's all so fun and forgiving learning there.
