Hoping there are some fender experts here. I'm having some problems mounting a rear fender on my 1999 Waterford RSE-11. There are eyes on the dropouts but nothing on the seat tube or chain stays to mount the fender. The bridge, if you could call it that, is microscopic. Are there any special techniques I'm missing? Pictures would help.

My cyclocross bike doesn't have a bridge. I once installed Planet Bike fenders on a 1987 Raleigh Technium. The manual said to install a ziptie to the seat tube if you don't have a bridge.

Not exactly a professional look but hey if it works. I actually tried it but the fender hit the fr der. I wonder what Waterford was thinking when they designed the bike. If it wasn't for that, it would be a perfect all purpose bike.

I know a Surly would work. But it would be a terrible step backwards from what I'm riding now. If there's anyone who has had a similar dilema feel free to jump in.

You should be able to use a daruma screw for the front fender mount at the fork crown.

For the rear fender you can use a fitting that bolts up to your rear brake mounting screw for the top mount and attaches to the fender like a clamp, or another style that attaches to the fender with a small plate and screws. With very little ingenuity the same fitting can be used for the brake bridge with two small zip ties.

Take a look at www.velo-orange.com in their fender section. They have everything you need, plus their fenders are way ahead of everybody else's in terms of selection, length, and mounting hardware

Plus the Harris Cycles site used to have a good selection of fender hardware, and if I recall some notes from Sheldon. Try the Peter White site, too.

I can't imagine what the idiot that designed my touring bike was thinking when he put the chainstay bridge where he did. Oh, that's right, I built the frame.

I have a zip tie holding my fender to my chainstay bridge. The fender has a clip to attach it to the bridge, but I didn't really feel like cutting up the fender to make that work. The bridge puts the fender too far away from the tire anyway. When and if I repaint, I may fix fender setup. I considered putting a p-clamp on the chainstay to attach the fender with.

The tubing manufacturers recommend that you don't have a chainstay bridge. I don't know what people are doing instead.
