The Hyperion treatment plant near Playa del Rey treats all the sewage from the LA basin. It's a huge facility covering many acres with streets connecting the various facilities. Of course, the entire place has the essence of -- sewage.

The plant also has a weekend household waste collection site. I just got back from there to dispose of a microwave that died.

When entering the plant you go by a guard shack, then a stop sign. Next to the stop sign there's another sign saying, "CAUTION, Bicycle Traffic In Plant".

Really? What a place to cycle. Who rides at Hyperion? Is it part of the operation? Maybe someone in the fourm can relate to us the joys of cycling at Hyperion.

Our local treatment plants use trikes and electric carts. They use them to carry tools.

Most oil refineries in the area have bicycles that are used by maintenance folks to get around. The bikes are allowed to enter the areas that are off limits to motor vehicles, in part because the vehicles could be an ignition source for fires.
