Training & Nutrition - Are there good stationary bikes in the $500 range?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm thinking of getting a stationary bike. I would LOVE to have the Lemond RevMaster, but it's wayy out of my budget ($995). I checked a local fitness shop, and they have a lower priced Schwinn for $399 that has magnetic resistance. It was OK, but I'd like something a little better.

I'm looking for something that is close to a road bike's "feel" when ridden. It seems like there is no middle ground for stationary bikes, either you get a cheap one or a really expensive one.

Does anybody know of any stationary bike brands/models in the $500 range? Any help would be appreciated.

Look for a used Schwinn Airdyne pro-comp model from the early
'90s. I own one and it's butter smooth with it's belt
secondary drive ( the regular Airdyne's are all chain drive)
Why used? I bought mine from a fellow who bought it to help
re-hab after hip replacment. The bike was in mint condition
with no visiable wear at all. The pro-comp cost over $1200
new but I paid $350 for mine which seems to be the average
price for any clean used Airdyne.

Why a Schwinn Airdyne? FWIW....I used every kind of
stationary bike type made during my knee re-hab and the
re-hab folk's really much prefered the Airdyne because
it's gives a good low/no impact workout. If you want to
tone and work up a sweat then the Airdyne will do....oh, yea.
One thing you'll never be able to do is out work an Airdyne.

There are ton of used Airdyne's out there so it shouldn't
be to much of a challange to find a real nice one for $400
or less.
