Hey everyone, I have a Miyata 610 bike that didn't come with brazed on shifter bosses.... and due to my ignorance I bought Shimano Dura Ace 7800 downtube shifters that only fit brazed on shifter bosses. My Miyata did come with a shifter boss band but that is no longer useful to me because I updated my bike with modern 10 speed drivetrans and the Dura Ace won't fit it. I managed to order the bosses but they needed to somehow be attached to the bike.

Is there any other way to attach the pieces onto the frame? I've already tried JB weld and Epoxy Glue and both are epic failures.

If I have to get it brazed on then what kind of metal should be used when brazing? Copper? Brass? Silver?

About how much will it cost me to get the bosses brazed on?

And.. if any of you guys happen to know a reputable place somewhere in Orange County (California) that I should go just to get it done, it would be awesome if you tell me.

Silver is the best for attaching these. Any competent builder and many shops should be able to do the work. I've never been near Orange County CA so I have no specific suggestions.

The job is quite simple, silver is best, and I can do it for you, but I'm not reputable. I do work for beer however, and am located in Lake Forest.

You do realize that it will toast your paint, I hope, and have included that in your plans...

KICK ASS! It seems like you've done this type of stuff before or at least built yourself several bicycle frames in the past, which is good enough for me. I kinda want this done as soon as possible since I've been sitting on this bike (figuratively) for a very long time. I'm also very aware of the paint issue and I've already removed enough paint (hopefully) that I think to get the bosses brazed on. I'm also in Irvine.

Just send me a message or email me.

I'm free today, April 6th, after 3:30PM.

Check yer email.

You'll probably want to remove paint from several inches all the way around the area where you want the bosses attached. And if there's a bunch of scum left over on the bosses from your previous experiments we'll want to clean that off completely -- cleanliness is next to godliness where silver brazing is concerned.

You old enough to buy me beer? Cash is so crass...
