I just got a 5.5 Trek Madone and bought a Cateye V3 computer that has a cadence measurement and I was wondering what kind of number I should be around.

Do a search. There's lots of threads on this subject. It's also highly personal based on your specific build and muscle fiber type makeup. You can also train for faster cadences. Generally 75-85 rpm is a good number - some do 90-100 rpm; others are content at 70.

As a commuter and occasional centurian, I prefer 90-100 on flats/slight inclines; 60 to 80 on hills.
