Recreational & Family - Craigslist find, or keep looking?

I've started to look for a replacement for my ~1994 Huffy Mt. Storm (don't laugh, it was free, and it's held up just fine). Saw this on Craigslist:

I know it's just as old as my Huffy, but would it be worth getting?

Just a little info. My max for a new bike is $200. Sure, I could go out and buy a $1000+ bike, but why? I'm only going to be riding it a few days a week for exercise and that's only when the weather is decent.

So far, the other bike I'm looking at is a Schwinn Ranger from Target for $149.

You may end up putting >$100 into it to service/replace the fork/cables/chain/tires/etc. Oh and it has no pedals.

My revised plan is to keep chugging away on the Huffy until I can no longer maintain it myself (replaced a few tubes/tires/brakes over the years) and probably get another xmart bike. I know what everyone here says about them, but it fits my budget and needs.

Whatever keeps you peddling. You will know when you need to upgrade. In the interim, enjoy your riding.

I would pass on another xmart bike and keep you eye on Craig's List. If you are not in a hurry,
you can watch for a while and see if you can find a better quality bike in your price range.
If you have the time, I suspect you could find a bike in better shape than the first one
and still stay in budget.

I would keep looking. $200 can get a good used bike on CL. I couldn't recommend the Schwinn Ranger, either,, but the next step or two, up in the Schwinn line are acceptable bikes ,when on a budget.

I agree with Arvadaman. Keep going on the Huffy until you can't go anymore, and look at craigslist once or twice a week to see if there are any good deals. I got a '99 Schwinn Frontier for $80 (list price - I probably could have haggled him down if I cared that much about $20). It's nothing special, but it suits my needs, and is a cut above an xmart bike.

I actually think that's the best way to make purchases on craigslist - when it's not something you need. You get a better deal that way because you can wait for the right thing to come along.
