So on friday morning I left my home (I live about 30 minutes west of downtown Los Angeles)... rode to Union Station... took the metrolink train to Oceanside... and met up with a friend of mine there and we rode down about 35 miles to San Diego!

That was an epic journey! It was a combination of public transportation and bicycle, but I had never ventured out THAT far before solely on bicycle (about 120 miles away from home). I had put a little bag on my rear rack with change of clothes and some health food bars, and I was good the whole time!

While leaving Oceanside, there was incredibly strong headwind the entire way down the coast... then PCH ended and we started going up Torrey Pines reserve and then Genesee St... SAN DIEGO HILLS/MTNS ARE INTENSE!!!!!!!!! That ride DESTROYED me and my right leg started to cramp unfortunately and I couldn't go too fast anymore for the last hour but I made it to my friends home and I WAS ECSTATIC!

All In All, the ride opened my eyes to the amount of room for improvement I had! I spent my weekend there resting/hanging out with friends in SD then rode back on Sunday. Epic adventure!!! Life is fun on a bicycle!!! And time doesn't matter. :thumb:

you're right on all accounts. i ride from roughly 10 miles inland to right where torrey pines starts, but i head north to oceanside and back. it's almost 60 miles RT.

Torrey Pines? That little hill? ;) It is the only thing around that can classified as a climb. The run down the coast is great. This is why I live in CA. On Saturday mornings I ride with SDBC and do the coast from La Costa down to La Jolla Village. There are a ton of people out.

It is a great feeling to be out and about without a car.
