I am looking to replace my son's grip shifters with triggers - he just can't get enough torque to shift the front without stopping the bike and using two hands. He currently has SRAM Gripshifters and a Shimano F/D. Does anyone make a front trigger that is not a Triple? Two chainrings is all his bike's got and I am not up for replacing the crankset.

A triple is what you need you will only use 2 positions of it, just make sure the limit screws are adjusted so he doesn't shift the chain off of the biggest ring.

If he's using sram "gripshift".
Get Sram SX4 for the bike, not an ecellent shifter but a nice upgrade. They can be had for about $20-$35 on ebay. Adjusting the front derail will be a little tricky, but should be fine.

If he's using shimano "rotoshift" i'de have to search, never been that route. But would be a similar situation.

I'm just glad your not putting the 7yr old on a 26" :thumb:

Might, find a crankset with 3 rings. That'de be slick 20"

is this a recent problem or has it been this way since you first bought the bike?

I am often misguided, but largely coachable.

Got the bike used. I took the shifter apart and re-lubed. I also replaced a rotting Shimano f/d. I have yet to clean and lube the guides and the BB, but it is really hard to shift. Right shifter is fine. Very frustrating.
