I thought that I was somewhat of a Masi buff, but I have a line on a Masi 'Les Viveurs', made in the '80s. It is serial # SMC56 E8114.

The lugwork is elegant and it looks geniune, but I've never heard of this Masi series before.

Has anyone heard of this bike, and how does it rank compared to a Gran Criterium or others?

Thanks,
Larry

I'll check it out later. Ebay is banned on work computers.

The bidding suddenly ended.. I am confused. EBay says on one hand that the bidding has ended, and it also states that it ends 6 days 11 hours (Apr 13, 200908:32:00 PM PDT).

I'm still curious as to what it was.

Looks to me like a San Marcos-built GC that's been repainted and decaled. Perhaps a customer bike, perhaps a later customization.

I did see the images before the auction was yanked, it started with a buy it now of $750, and a minimum bit of just under $500, foolish, the $750 was a reasonable buy it now, the initial bidder was a fool.

Now, the name on the top tube is most likely the name of the original rider. Bike had oddball paint, but could have well been original, my guess also due to the fork rake was it was a custom, in better times, and with better ebay watching, I would have bought it. Tax time is coming, quarterly tax deposits are coming, property taxes are coming... I feel broke.

The OP's link still shows the photos. Very nice bike indeed. I think the brakes are Super Record as well as the pedals and seatpost.

I tried to buy it outright- the auction closed prematurely before I could. It is nice.
