Instead of the regular out-in-the-country Saturday ride I decided to ride around in downtown Winston Salem this morning. This certainly isn't a huge metropolis but we have some high-rises and lots of cool places I didn’t even know existed.
I started by riding through Old Salem (http://www.oldsalem.org), a restored Moravian living history town. I then went up to the arts district on 4th street, over to the old money big homes of the west end, and back down town. I happened across a bunch of tricycle recumbent bikes outside of Neighborhood Transportation (http://ntransportation.com) on Liberty St. so I stopped and spoke with the owner for a few minutes, turns out he went to college in California near where I grew up and was one of the first people to ride the Davis Double Century.
The city is vastly different at 0800 (pronounced zero eight) on a Saturday morning than during the hustle and bustle of the work day. You get to see things and meet people while riding that just aren’t possible motoring through in the car. It’s nice to have a change of pace every now and then too.
Just thought I’d share, thanks for listening.
