Some of you know the bike that got me back into cycling was my Giant Revive LX. It is a great recreational bicycle and is one of the most comfortable rides I have ever had. I have put more than 500 miles or occasional riding on it and can say it is good for a day’s ride without having to train your bottom to accept the saddle/seat.

Now here is my dilemma. A good riding friend of mine has a wife that can no longer ride a conventional bike. Not even a comfort bike because of arthritic wrists. Any pressure for a forward position causes pain and she simply can’t ride more than a very few blocks. One or two of the people in our club suggested recumbent and offered ones for a test ride.

One mentioned my Revive and because it has been hanging in the shed for two weeks while I play with the new Masi and fine tune the Jamis. So I offered to let him burrow the Revive for a week or two to see if it would help solve the problem. I told him if they liked it the shop where I got mine had another one and I am sure they could get a deal on it. Well the shop doesn’t have another one and she has fallen in love with the bike. No pressure on the wrist at all and the shock supported saddle makes the ride smoother than anything she has been on.

He called today to ask if I would part with the Revive. My first instinct was to say no but I remember the look on his wife’s face as she rode with the cruisers in our club for a quick 20 mile ride Friday. We haggled for a while and I decided that if that bike could bring such joy to me and such a smile to someone else it would see more road time if I sold it. So now I have seen what N-1 is like. At first I thought I should never have offered the bike but then realized I was adding one more person to the family and more than likely the club. And of course helping a friend and making a new one.

And the sale of the Revive could get a handbuilt set of training wheels that could even be better than your existing wheels.

Mavic Open Pro or CXP 33's laced with 36 spokes to a 105 or ultegra hub would do more for your Ego.

We have a "shop" Revive, and I've ridden it a few times. I say you did the right thing, and besides, now you have a MASI, so selling the Revive was absolutely and completely the right thing to do.

I think I did if for no other reason than to see someone enjoy riding as much as I have come to. The smile on face of my friend's wife was worth it but even more the opportunity that he now has to ride with his wife on the off days between our club rides. The Revive was what I needed at the time I needed it to get me interested in cycling. It is the kind of bike that fills a specific need and does it pretty well. With a 3 speed internal hub and a 7 speed cassette it makes getting from point A to point B pretty easy and it just doesn't get much more comfortable. And as you have pointed out I have moved in another direction.

I guess it is a bit of that pass it on idea. A friend has helped me by giving me a great deal on the Masi. Another sold me some bar ends to try that seem to work and look great on it.

Happy Masi Rider since '09. :D
