Despite near 100F heat and high humidity I did a 27 mile club ride with lots of hills.
I used the Van Dessel (44 x 16t) for this ride.

Nice. I rode down to the Museum Campus on the lake trail, got about a half mile back up towards my place, and my frame broke. Downtube decided to divorce itself from the head tube. I figured something was wrong when my top tube was suddenly bent and my pedals were hitting the ground. Good thing I was only doing about 30...

Damn! Old frame or new? What make?
Inquiring minds want to know.

It's somebody's old custom-built AL triathlon frame from the 80s. Weird quasi-lug construction (bonded?). If I can bend the top tube back into shape I might be able to epoxy the downtube back into place, but even so I couldn't really trust it. Looks like I'm back on the Trek MTB for a while...
And all the people on the red line looked at me funny on the way home. :(

My wife went for her first real SS ride today. She's got some lagging injuries from her recent marathon and can't run again yet so she's forced onto the bike. Good thing I just finished the buildup of a bianchi for my sister. Anyway, my wife got back and said it was the best bike ride she'd ever been on. She loves the SS and is ready to swear off gears for ever. I've even got permission to build up a bike for her after the current bike goes off to my sister to take to NYC. I love getting permission to build up a bike.

But you had to look like some serious bad ass, too. Points for you.

It was 52cm, I believe. Already checking eBay and classifieds for something I can swing. Really didn't need this expense right now, though. If I hadn't had such a good night last night, I'd probably be really pissed off about this.
Time to start stripping off components...

Probably the same bonding method that my cute 80's titanium miyata has, aluminum lugs. I worry about the same thing happening, for some reason I don't trust glued lugs, especially if they were set 15-20 years ago... Sorry it happened, I too might have a frame around here I would give to you for the price of shipping, what size are you?

52cm, though I'm pretty sure I can fit anything in the 49-52cm range.
Had I really thought about how this frame was constructed before, I'd probably have gone ahead and drilled and pinned all the major joints to keep something like this from happening.
Anybody have a good way of removing cranks without a crank puller?
Figures this happens a week to the day after I get rid of my car. :-p

Sorry I didn't read all the way down, I think the smallest frame I have is a 55cm fuji... I think I scored it for 5 dollars at a goodwill....

Fugazi Dave-
I am just around the corner from you and have a variety of tools as well as a loaner bike that was just given to me (geared Trek 800 - damn near immaculate, yet probably 8+ yrs old. 7spd rear cluster) that I will never ride. It is yours for the using until you get what you need. Let me know via PM.
