Hello everyone, I just got into Mountain biking after being bmx rider for years. I am oversees in japan and picked up a giant Rock1 , I have searched online but couldn't find much information about this bike. does it have an U.S. equilvalent with a different name or anything like that?

They sell them in Europe too. They don't appear to be sold in the United States. Click here. (http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/bikes/mountain/2450/32675/)
It'd be equivalent to either the Yukon, Rincon or Boulder models, it's got a mixture of parts that'll be found on all those models.
The 2009 Rock 1 (http://220.127.116.11/translate_c?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.giant.co.jp/giant09/bike_datail.php%3Fp_id%3DM0414059%26action%3Doutline&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.giant.co.jp/giant09/bike_datail.php%253Fp_id%253DM0414059%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG&usg=ALkJrhjMdWG7a3gPqQsf6rqhkS0SuP0W9g) from Japan and it's Full Specs (http://18.104.22.168/translate_c?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.giant.co.jp/giant09/bike_datail.php%3Fp_id%3DM0414059%26action%3Dfullspecs%26PHPSESSID%3D6g5lg4n5qvrv18jv22cnb7qqg4&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.giant.co.jp/giant09/bike_datail.php%253Fp_id%253DM0414059%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG&usg=ALkJrhgvJKp5ZHWNfcq6jsNK6ACYZ02QVA)

Thanks for the answers, is this a decent entry level bike or is it kind of a piece of crap? Are there any componets that really should/could be replaced or upgrade? Like I said before I'm new to the sport but from the few times I have been out I know I'm gonna get into it big time, it's a blast. mostly the area I ride is cross country with a few steep fast downhills.
Ride until it breaks. Maybe upgrade brakes if you are worried about those DH sections.
