Foo - I HATE irresponsible dog owners!!!! (Rant)

The kind.. that walk thier dogs on the trail without ANY leashing, and when they come up to my bike and start drooling or licking it/me, or sometimes biting/chewing my shoes, they say things like "aww hes just playing, isn't he sweet?"




God! I do not want thier dogs on me, I don't care how cute they are! I'm trying to bike!!!


And I HATE it when they don't clean up after thier dogs!!! My tires are a MESS now thanks to a dog!!! ARGH I HATE THOSE THINGS! :mad: :mad:

My coworker does this with his dogs, he thinks people should just deal with it.

I have three dogs myself, but we leash them and don't let them just run up to strangers. If only the strangers did the same with their kids. We had a kid run up screaming at one of our dogs "I LOVE PUPPIIES" and grabbed him from behind. Good luck it was the Husky and not the Cattle Dog or the outcome may have been different. As it was Curly hid under a bench and did not want to come out.

This is why I simply ride on the road -- and go looking for traffic. Somehow those dogs tend not to get too close to me on my daily commute.

Yeah, kids and dogs really get on my nerves too.

Yeah and people hate mountain bikers that tear up and create new paths, bomb down trails and terrorize hikers and horses.

It's called tolerance and patience. If more people learned to deal and not complain and show some courtesy we would all be better off.

Especially with mountain biking where the use of land is fought for on a monthly or yearly basis, whining does nothing but create problems and animosity between hikers, bikers and equestrians.

The dog thing bothers me...mostly the not cleaning up after your dog. As far as kids, sure they can be a pain, but they should be on the MUTs. I just slow down untill I pass them.

Last week we went out camping for the weekend, on a local MUT along the river we met a woman walking her dog, a mixed bred Pit Bull and Shepard. Well the dog took one look at the loaded bike (recmbent trike) and stopped dead, ran behind the woman and tried to hide. Funnest thing I've ever seen a dog do. We stopped and talked with her for a bit and all the time her dog was trying to run away it was so scared. I wish every dog was like hers.

Dog *censored* lying on the trail is not a stereotype -- its a real problem.

All it takes are a few to create that image. Once that perception of MTB's is in someones mind, chances are no one will never change it.

I don't know. This morning, a lady walking her dog had to reign him in so he wouldn't jump out into the street after me.

I guess I look a lot like a mechanical rabbit.

I dont mind dogs so long as they don't try to grab my foot or jump on me. At that point, I'm prolly going to sweep my hand right down on their nose. Nothing hard, just a tap firm enough to make them stop.

I know owners think we should just deal, but we can control our bikes....they cant necessarily control their unleashed dogs...big difference. Fortunately I grew up in a family that had a kennel and I know how to handle dogs, so anything short of a dog with some kind of chip on it's shoulder is rather easy to deal with.

Now for dog poop...that is outright disrespectful...I will go off on people for that...how would they like it if I was to just drop my levis and leave a steamer right in behind their car? To me it's the same difference...deoesn't matter what creature it came from...if it's your pet...please keep it's poo off the public trails...

Excellent point. I have had very little trouble with dogs and that I dealt with a little dog-induced-sprinting.

The ones that get me are the folks who don't clean up after their dogs. Nothing is worse than rounding a corner of a trail and encountering a huge pile of processed dog food. No amount of tolerance and patience can overcome this.

One of my neighbors solved the problem, at least in front of her house. A guy walked his dog by her house every day and it would poop on the corner of her yard. One day, she went out, scopped it up in a clear plastic baggie, ran after the guy and shouted "Sir, you dropped this!" and handed it to him.

Never saw that dog and owner again.
