Mountain Biking - which clipless to go?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
i am considering to go clipless pedal
i only have 1 bike which is a NRS1 01 , i will use this bike to commute, supermarket, mountain ride(very less downhill, most fireroads and singletrack).
if i go for clipless, i don't want to wear a clipless shoes all the time, sometimes i will just ride with sandals to go postoffice or supermarket.
i've never try a clipless pedal before, which brand/model clipless pedal and shoes should i narrow down my choice?
thz for any information. :)

You should definately go mountain bike "clip-in" pedals and shoes. The cleats of the shoe will damage wood floors and it would be very bad with regular road shoes. The lugs on the soles of mountain bike shoes will give the best protection from this type of damage and also be more comfortable for walking. I don't like the term "clip-less" for the "clip-in" pedals. It is ambiguouse and wrong. Zinn in his books on bicycle maintenance calls them clip-in. I guess the term "clip-less" comes about from the elimination of the old pedals with toe-clips and straps.

My personal favorite(s) for pedals are Crank Bros. Eggbeaters and Speedplay frogs.
If you want both platform and clipless Crank Bros. makes a pedal called the mallet C that has an eggbeater in the center of a fairly large platform.
i saw the mallet c in bike shop, is that "little" platform are big enough for normal wear shoes, anyone has experience on this ?

Um the Mallet C is a full platform. I think you must be thinking of the Candy, and its nearly impossible to wear street shoes on a Candy. The Mallet C is very comfy for street shoes though.

I wouldn't recommend starting on that right away. Try Shimanos SPD pedals. They have a ton of adjustable features and they arn't that expensive. There are a few models that have a platform cage around it so you don't need to always wear the shoe as you mentioned.

I just recently got some crank bros mallet c's and they have been great so far. They have better grip as a platform than my original pedals as well as the ability to clip in on either side of the platform. I'd recommend them.
