The bit down St Georges Drive will need to be detoured onto the bike path nearby, the road is near unDRIVEable, never mind riding a road bike down it. As a days riding, this early in the season, it's gonna hurt, might try about the first third or half.

we are not detouring around ANY bad road conditions - that is sort of the point.
the route has gravel, dirt alleys, broken pavement and many many climbs. a regular road or cross bike will suffice for most people.
if you are afraid of bumpy roads this is probably not the ride for you.

oh ya, the first half is pretty "easy" complared to the second half. the real hurt will be upon you once you crest COP - the big climbs come after that!
finally, we will be stopping in bowness at cadence coffee for a short break to regroup, refresh, and reenergize for the savage "hellingen" that dot the second half of the course.
finally finally - this is just a fun ride with no finish line (well the bar at fergus and bix could be considered the finish line), no support, and no rules - except the rules of the road.
