Training & Nutrition - What do you think of these supplements?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've got a lot of free samples and a connection to get a lot more. What do you think about them? They're IOC and UCI safe, have a patent, and claim to aid the body's lactic acid energy transport system. The ingredients are all FDA approved, also. Do you think they're scientifically backed to support their claim? Are they indeed safe, to you?
I'm just curious as to what you guys think, I'm not taking price into consideration since they're been provided to me for free.

I dunno, patents aren't that hard to get and it sounds kinda suspicious if the whole site's plastered with bold red text from consumers praising the product.
OTOH, it sounds like it just sturates your body with a lot of base to neutralize the acid.

So, is that a bad thing?
I'm really the last person who should give nutritional advice. My girlfriend is biomed, I'll ask her tonight. But it sounds like nothing more than an expensive anacid like tums or maloxx.
I tried em last winter skiing and spinning - couldn't tell any different. It's basically calcium and magnesium. I noticed that the Sportlegs dosage is lower than what my daily multi-vitamin contains.
Don't waste your money.

Folks- We knew it'd be an uphill battle marketing SportLegs; they really do sound too good to be true. But they really do help your body turn lactic acid into energy, instead of pain. In soon-to-be-published results of clinical trials at Kent State University last Fall, formal double-blind randomized placebo-controlled testing showed, compared to placebo, an average 11.2% increase in time to exhaustion, 12.8% increase in VO2max aerobic capacity, and 15.6% increase in lactate threshold.
That's a pretty significant difference, one that 9 out of 10 people can feel the first time they try SportLegs (except for Velo and Yak, I guess). That's why we offer a $7.99 6-dose trial special at our website.
Here are two more recent customer e-mails for you skeptics to disbelieve:

Howdy,
A friend of a friend gave me two sample packets of your
Sportlegs product a the Sea Otter Classic the weekend before
last. A good friend, who happens to be a nutritionist,
looked it over and said it looked good, so I popped three of
the pills before my Sea Otter sport single speed race. I
have only reached the podium once in my cycling career and
that was two years ago in a sport XC class, so it was a
major surprise to me when I won the race. First place out
of 105 competitors and it was only my second time racing a
single speed! Needless to say I was/am shocked.
To add to the success story, I placed second in the Tour of
Canyonlands (Moab, UT) Single Speed category yesterday. I
blew away my time from last year by 19 minutes (2:06 to
1:37) and was only 5 minutes behind a pro-level rider.
Given the above, it's no surprise that I ordered a bottle of
your product when I got back from Moab last night. The only
problem is my team mates on the Salt Lake City Pedro's team
will be trying to mooch off my bottle before the races.
I was wondering if you could send me a bunch of the sample
packets that you gave out at Sea Otter so I can pass them
out to my grubby team (25 men & women-
http://www.pedrosslc.com/ ). If they have even have half
the success that I did, I'm sure they'll also be ordering a
bottle from you.
Thanks for a great product,

Hey Carl,
I have started the season with two big wins. I won a 12 hour in Texas, and
then I beat Tinker Juarez at 24 hours in the Old Pueblo. I am a sport legs
believer. I will keep you guys informed as the season rolls on. Look for big
performances at 24 hour Nationals and Worlds. Take care,
Cameron Chambers

Best to you all, despite your skepticism.

Not to mean any insult or anything, but why can't I just buy a big ol jar of magnesium and calcium?
