I found a leftover 2002 Cannondale R200si at a nearby shop in my size 56cm. It is marked down to $1700 from $2100?. It has all Ultegra and Campy Proton wheelset. The shop set up bike for me and it rode nice. Has the Saeco graphics red paint job. It has a 12-23 cassette with 53/59 rings. It seems like a serious bike for racing? has the CAAD5 frame. A nice bike on my parking lot ride. It is a standard frame, not compact. And seems bigger than a 56. I was not sure about the seatpost with the little kink in it.
I also am liking the Specialized Allez Comp. It seems to have similar components, Ultegra etc. I tried a Elite on in a 56cm frame, they use the compact geometry, and it fit well in a trainer, but no Comp was available in size for a road test. It goes for about $1600. I read that the newer ones will have Mavic Cosmos instead of Kysirum Equipes.
Any comments on this bike choice dilemma? Are there any concerns about the long term life of either frame? I have read good reviews on both.
I am 46 and probably will not be racing. Maybe do a short type tri and just ride to train and with a local group.
thanks. deciding to buy an new fairly expensive bike is not easy.
