Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - A 3-Mode MC-E CREE for my second light?

As I plan rebuilding my second homemade light body, I can't help but wonder what would be the result if I did the following.

Suppose my existing light body has a constant 3.3v supply, and a single on/off push button switch. My switch is a basic on/off switch, not a clicky flashlight switch.

If I was to install this drop-in unit with its 3-mode driver, then attached my POS lead to the center spring, and the NEG lead to the larger spring, what would be the result when I turn on and off my single on/off pushbutton switch?

I suspect it would come on the first mode and stay on.

Pressing the switch lightly and quickly should make it cycle through the modes.

Doesn't the circuit wait for an open switch to change modes?

I would think that when I turn it off, then back on, it would go to the next mode. I would have to turn it on and off, each time I would want a differant mode.

I'm not sure but I think the switch state is simply a capacitor, so when you 'flick' the switch the capacitor doesn't discharge completely and the torch then resumes but moves to the next mode ?

When turned off properly the capacitor discharges and when next turned on the torch is back to it's primary mode.

Some 3 mode torches (on, flash & off) use a 3 way switch, that mocule only has 2 connections so must use momentary break to change modes ?
