Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. soory if this has been covered, I searched with no good results.
I'm looking to start wearing a helmet, but I'm looking for something that is lower profile then the typical helmet. I am riding mainly on the street. Where should I be looking other then my LBS.
Check online. You're looking for skate-style helmets. Also check local skate stores. I wear the TSG Evolution (http://www.amazon.com/TSG-Evolution-Multi-Sport-Helmet-X-Large/dp/B000I47KRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=generic&qid=1236403697&sr=1-1). Much more discreet than the Giro Transfer (http://www.amazon.com/Giro-Transfer-Sport-Bike-Helmet/dp/B000BO3D18) I used to wear.

The Citi Bell helmet now comes in a kind of dull metal grey. Very low profile and the crash tests are very good for that helmet.

Also look into the Giro Flak - excellent forehead protection.

Consider the PRO-TEC Ace (http://pro-tec.net/bike/helmets/ace/ace.html). Good design and relatively inexpensive.
