What is it about getting a new chain? Now it runs so very silent, cant hear a gear; shifts even better than before. Would really be nice if it could stay the way it is. Thought about treating it with this spray on white lithium grease I have out in the garage. The stuff is great on contact points of other moving objects.... Seems like what ever they use on the new one is a thick lube of some sort. Anyhow,,,just had to come on and tell about how happy my bike and I are about our new chain. that's all............. :-)

Actually for best results clean the chain and get that goo off immediately... it only serves to attract dirt like glue. White lithium grease is probably one of the worst things for a chain... its very stick and holds in dirt, sand, small rocks, branches, etc... ;) be sure to maintain your chain and drivetrain properly and it will stay smooth for quite some time.
What kind did you buy?

I will have to second this suggestion. I bought a new chain for my MTB right before the start of a ride because the night before, I discovered a cracked sideplate on one of the links (which I replaced just in case I didn't have the chance to get a new chain) and I needed to replace the chain anyways as it was getting up there in stretch. I swapped the chain on the side of the road as my riding partners were prepping. I didn't have the time or facilities to clean that gunk off. We ended up doing some bit of offroading and let me tell you, that new chain didn't look so new after the ride. It was a real pain to get the thick grime buildup off it later that night too.

That goo is only to prevent rust while the chain is in the package. #1 thing you do to a new chain is clean it then hit each roller with a drop of quality lube (Pedro's Syn-Lube Road is my weapon of choice).
Clean the new goo off and use Pro Link. I clean my chain every 2 to 3 hundred miles (every other week) and re lube with Pro Link and my chain always feels like new. Pro Link is also good on the Speed Play Cleats - at the same interval as the chain.

Was going to get a Dura-Ace 9 speed chain but the LBS guy told me to save my money; I'd be better off with the Sram Power Chain. Just before I aswered your question I went to an online store and looked up the weight of the Dura-Ace one, Sram's weight is right here on the box and it's 10 grams lighter than the Dura-Ace! Imagine that...maybe the LBS guy knew what he was talking about.(or maybe it's one link shorter?) j/k.
