Mountain Biking - new bike

i wanna new bike. to do like 5-6 foot drops, and eventually i will go higher.
its main purpose would be xc, but its going to have to be really tough. i want a hardtail defnitly, not fs. i have 500 and i cna go a lil over. any suggestions?

A hard tail for 5-6 foot drops and a price range of 500.00. I would have to say try out a Kona Hoss. I just put a down payyment on one myself, it is a nice very solid bike, the frame is very strong, although you may want to switch out the forks. I have een doing alot of searching for a hardtail in that price range and the Hoss seems to be the most rugged for me.

But lets see what some of theexperienced fellas suggest

You're going to have to save a bit more if you want to have a bike that can handle drops like that. Probably in the $750 range!

found a 2004 p.2 specialized.
its not pretty though but it the guy selling it offers a 1 year warranty. a few scratches, but i dunt care. so a used p2 would be good?

and I second the hoss. I have a 2002 roast (what the hoss design is since the moved the roast/stuff to djers)...and the thing kicks ass. Too bad I am destroying the fork

I've got an Iron Horse Sinister which is my DJ Hardtail. I'd much rather have a P.2 (or P.3).

Not that I don't like my Sinister, just that I like the P Series better!
