Northeast - bike policy on boston subway...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Check the MBTA.com website. As I recall, basically bikes are allowed on subways outside of peak hours, but never on the Green Line. On Commuter Rail, with stops within and beyond the subway service area, bikes are allowed on off peak hours (outbound in AM and inbound in PM). See the website for actual hours.
I'm a fortunate commuter because I live downtown and commute outbound to Norwood and then take the train home in the evening. See however our looming mass transit woes: "Boston's public transportation woes...."

I wear a helmet and I don't know what the laws are. If you need to rent a helmet, or a bike, try Back Bay Bikes.

Bikes are allowed on the freedom trail, but not a good idea, IMO. Back in January was a thread about cycle touring in downtown Boston, including my own opinion. See: "Visiting Boston in July - Tour city by bike?"

Don't get me wrong though, I love cycling in Boston.
