CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- President Bush fell off his bicycle Saturday while riding on his ranch, according to White House spokesman Trent Duffy.

Bush, who was accompanied on his bike ride by his doctor, Richard Tubb, a military agent and a member of the Secret Service, fell about 16 miles into a 17-mile ride.

Bush suffered minor abrasions to his chin, upper lip, nose, right hand and both knees, but was able to ride back home, Duffy said.

Tubb treated the president at the scene. Bush was wearing a helmet and a mouth guard when he fell, Duffy said.

Reporters were told not to be surprised if the president is bandaged next time he appears in public.

Bush is scheduled to deliver an "important speech" Monday night about the transfer of political power in Iraq. The speech will be televised at 8 p.m. from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Last June in Kennebunkport, the president fell while riding a "Segway Human Transporter." First lady Laura Bush witnessed the spill; a picture of Bush falling forward was published on numerous Web sites. He was not injured.

In January 2002, Bush fainted for a brief time in the residence of the White House while eating a pretzel and watching a professional football game on television.

At the time, Tubb said the president blacked out and fell to the floor from a couch but appeared to have recovered quickly.

Following that incident, Bush had a bruise on his lower lip and a scrape on his left cheek bone about the size of a half-dollar. Bush believed his head either hit the floor or a table next to the couch and that his glasses cut his face.

Despite Saturday's fall, the president and first lady still planned to go to a graduation celebration in Austin for their daughter Jenna.

The White House confirmed that Jenna did not go to her University of Texas graduation ceremony Saturday to pick up her English degree.

Her parents had already decided not to attend, saying they did not want to disrupt the event by their presence and that of White House security.

Jenna's twin sister, Barbara, graduates Monday from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, with a degree in humanities.

Her parents gave the same reason for not attending her ceremony. Aides said they plan to have a private dinner later.

Those things are said to be "idiot proof". I guess one can draw their own logical conclusion from that. From what I understand, the built-in gyroscopic stabiliser doesn't really work too well if you don't turn it on. :)

Of course, that's only speculation. We don't acturally know John Kerry's heart rate, because he won't release his full medical records. Search "John Kerry" and "medical records" on the Internet, and you get a statement from his campaign detailing his medical condition...in the 1960s.

Kerrry made a snide remark and then realized he better drop the health issue....FAST.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm definately planning to base my decision in November on resting heart rates.

Robert...There are days it would be better a president fake his death; if that mean't that person might skip making certain decisions.Just call it a day off work...... By that I mean, some heart rates are so slow, one thinks one not alive.

That had to be priceless watching "the frog" take a tumble. I would love to see some footage of that. BTW, yeah just about everybody crashes on a bike. However most on here ride a lot of miles in order to crash. I am averaging about a crash every 1000 miles right now.

I am not aware that Bush is a regular bike rider. I bet he is averaging about a crash every 17 miles. I don't eat that many pretzels but I have never choked on one. I don't know Bush's pretzel choking rate but i speculate that is bad as well. Anybody see a trend here?

Um, they have both fallen off bikes. Kerry fell off his road bike a couple months ago. I for one don't care, as I am sure most people here ;) have fallen off of their bikes once or twice. If anything I would be more embarassed about Kerry's fall on the road than falling from a mountain bike offroad...

And for the mouthpiece thing - it's good that he had it. I would want any president to wear one while mountain biking (road riding.. maybe not). If Bush knocked his front teeth out just prior to going to a summit meeting somewhere it wouldn't look too good would it?

Well, we once had a President (Ford) who couldn't "walk and chew gum at the same time," and another who inspired a new Japanese word, "Bushushuru."

Ford was a star of UofM's national champion football teams of the 30s. He might have been the best athlete of all our presidents. But fall down a couple of airplane ramps and everybody forgets....

I remember watching a guy on a bike at a red light doing a track-stand. He started tipping, but couldn't unclip. I watched as he helplessly went down...and down...and down.

From what I understand Franklin Roosevelt was a huge fan of bicycling and he used to ride alot, BEFORE he was stricken with polio.

As I understand it, he took up cycling because he has bad knees from running. Since I haven't seen any photos from this, or any other ride, I would have to say he rides for fitness, not the photo op.

I think we're seeing a mishap competition from the presidential candidates: Kerry fell off a bike, so Bush must fall off a bike (the mouthguard and the accompaning doctor--when you know you're going to take a tumble, it makes sense to protect yourself). bush isn't a cyclist. he's a dumbass. by the definition stated earlier. i think all dumbasses .. lets start calling them destroyers, that is what they are. i think all destroyers should be run over. to bad no one will.

Have ridden on city streets recently? In my experience, they are worse than the off-road places I used to go on a mountain bike.

You know I got to say this is gotten really silly. Who really cares any way so what if Kerry is a Roadie or if GWB is an MTB let the guys ride and fall in peace. It has nothing what so ever to do with who is the better presidential canidate.
