I am considering a soma double cross but not sure about sizing. They seem to have extra-long top tubes. Any people 6 feet tall riding a soma dc? What size do you recommend?

Thanks for your help

I am 6 ft even and use a size 60cm.

Thanks Barrettscv. Great report you linked me to.

Actually, I was debating between a 56 or 58...

The 56 Soma has the same length TT as my road bike (57 cm Orbea Onix) but all other dimensions are smaller.

The 58 has all proper dimensions exept for the TT which is almost an inch longer than my road bike. (575 cm vs. 592 cm). I think I would need to run a 75mm stem or less as I currently run a 90mm on the orbea now.

Not sure how short is to short for road/cx stem lengths.

Thoughts anyone?

My cross bike is the exact same size virtual top tube as my road bike. Most people suggest the same. I wouldn't go with the 75mm stem, too twitchy.

Stay with a 90mm stem and use a zero offset seatpost to improve the reach. The zero offset seatpost will move the seat forward, shortening the reach. Check the seat tube angles. The Soma is 72 while many road bikes are 73 or more. The zero offset seatpost puts the seat in the correct location over the BB.

Cheers,

Michael

I'm 6'2", 91 cm inseam and also ride the 62 with a 100mm stem. Love that bike.

6' even ride a 58 with a 100mm stem. My favorite bike to date.

But I don't think you want to duplicate the geometry. It's made with slacker angles for a reason, namely, the intended use. And there is no single "correct" saddle location w.r.t. BB, not with height, and not with fore-aft.

If I were you I'd go for the 56 and use an extra spacer or two, or flip the stem, if necessary.

P.S. You might also need to take into account BB drop. Looks like Orbea doesn't publish BB drop but stack & reach instead. I suppose if you really wanted to know you could review high school trig.

just saw comment about cross forks being about an inch longer than road forks. makes sense, and explains the shortness of headtubes. looks like a 56 for me!

just to add to the thread, im 5'11.5" and I am considering the 56. i am used to old 80's schwinns (23" world and super le tour) which have notoriously short top tubes. last "modern" road bike i had was a crit frame, and i could never get the bars up high enough (56cm frame, 1" carbon steerer- maxed out at 1 inch of spacers). damn my long legs and short torso. im hoping that with the "extra" head tube height the soma will be a perfect fit.

I think you will be good, I felt I could have gone with a 56 or 58
