Got my Powertap to be recognized by the software and downloaded my ride from today. Was wondering if anyone would be willing to look at the file and tell me what some of the numbers mean. Either I could e-mail it to you, .cvs file, or tell me how to post it here so you can see the data.
Thanks alot, I am just trying to get the basic idea of what I am looking at and what I am looking for.
Chuck

Almost 1300W for 5" power. Not too shabby.
Now it all depends on your weight to determine your W/kg to find out where you stand.

I'll post some analysis shortly but here is the summary. Looks like you've got a pretty wicked sprint in that second file...

Thanks for the analysis! It sure looks like a lot of confusing data. I just wonder how I can reach a max heart rate of 191 when my theoretical max is 174 based on my age. I wonder what that means?

The sprint was up a slight incline which fits my power curve I think, I went pretty hard but I think I can do higher numbers with a full on effort. Of course with my weight I still suck at watts per kg. Oh well, maybe I can find a downhill road race!

It sucks, I stand alone! I would have to lose 40 pounds just to be an ok rider, and that aint never gonna happen. I'll just have to race smarter than the other guys, although I really am the leadout man on our team. Now if I can just get to the front in the last 500 meters I might do something.

Read the book Training and Racing with a Power Meter, Hunter Allen and Andrew Coggan. It will answer a lot of the initial questions.

Have you heard the line... "the difference between theory and practice, is that in theory there is no difference?"

The whole 220-age thing is complete BS, or more accurately it is completely misunderstood and misapplied, at best.

And since you have powermeter, I'd invest the 99$ into WKO for windows or get Golden Cheetah for OS X/Linux.
It's so much either to track your progress.

220-age is useless for individuals. I'm 48 and not particularly fast, and I can hit 192. I can average my "theoretical max" for half an hour.

Nice 5 second power.

Get WKO+. If you use Linux, run it in WINE.

Makes you wonder why and how they came up with 220-age.
I see WKO+ in my future!

I can do a little more power than I did, but at my weight I am still underpowered!

Here's a good article:

I can do a little more power than I did, but at my weight I am still underpowered!

But that doesn't make much difference if the road is flat or downhill.

Reading Training and Racing with a Power Meter as I type this. Picked it up after work. Now to learn what all this data means.
