BMX - Pretty new to BMX riding, need help choosing bike, have choices!

I am just an ordinary rider, I don't participate in any club or ride 40 miles every morning :p Just about 2-3 hours a day, even more if I'm up for it.

The bike I want will be used more on dirt surfaces, and a bit on road as well. Basically you can say, 50-70% dirt and 30-40% road. I will be preforming tricks with the bike but I am a rookie at this, unfortunately. But I will still be doing the basics, and other fun stuff with it also.

Currently my choices are:

Mongoose Brawler 2009:

I have read many reviews that say that it is a good strong dirt, but a bit too heavy, I think it weighs around 12.3 kg. (I have read that Mongoose isn't as 'good as it used to be' or something, and that they are sold in Wal-Mart?)

Eastern Traildigger, This is apparentley as said on the site a good beginner bike, but there are two beginner versions,

Number 1 really doesn't have my interest considering the color, and the second one seems a bit small for me, or I don't really know. By the way, what is the real difference between the two other than design?

The above are my choices, but I am not sure which would be the best for a not-so beginner rider, mainly dirt/street, and is light at the same time.

Stay away from eastern and those mongoose bikes. Spend $350 or so and get something full chromoly. it will last you 10x longer. it pays to spend a little more. Look at the DK Helio for the best bang for your buck right now.

Go with what Fuzzy said, the DK is probably the best bike in the $350 and under range. But what is your budget btw?

Thank you, I have looked at some prices of this bike and it seems to be much cheaper than the others.

Just wondering,If it lasts 10X or so longer since its full chromoly, why are the others more expensive? Are the companies overrated? (don't have to answer this)

And when your stating 'it pays to spend a little more', how much more, and what :P?

My Budget is around 500 AUD, so about 360 USD, so yeh.. I don't think I can get any better for 10 dollars more, unless... :P

To answer your question, yes some of the companies are overrated I guess you could say. And I guess they think they're stuff is worth more than it really is. But people buy it so it doesn't really matter.

So is Eastern not a really good company to go for? Is DK better?

Most people don't like Eastern, but I have to admit, they're high-end completes aren't toooo bad. I wouldn't buy one, but if one was given to me, I would rock it. And DK is a more trusted company among the people here. But DK has the best bang for your buck starter bike right now.

Eastern puts out alot of garb. If The higher prices are either just a brand name ripping you off, or you are paying for better components.

And if you get it before the 24th of this month you get 10% off if you put in oakley . so do the math thats about 35 more dollars off so thats well under your budget and better than any 350 dollar bike you can get. Id have to say thats the way to go my friend.
