i have a 1" threaded fork on my bike.
i can replace the headset with a 1" threadless headset and use a threadless fork, correct?

Well, none of the 'experts' have answered you, so I'm gunna say "yes" :)
I'm planning on doing the same thing; I'm 97% sure this is possible.
Yes you can get a 1" threadless headset and a 1" threadless fork along with a 1" threadless stem and you are set. Just remember when you are cutting the steer tube on the fork to measure twice and cut once! Good luck, if you have any more questions let me know.

I would also advise that you don't cut it down as much initially but instead, play some spacer games and ride with the stem at various heights for a while to determine what eventual height you'll want.

i believe you can stack as high as it is wide...so 1"
